Epson, the leading provider of printers, scanners and projectors, conducted a survey among approximately 30,000 people from 39 countries for its Climate Barometer this year. This marks the third time in succession that the Barometer has been realised. This year, the survey pays particular attention to \u201cGeneration COP\u201d\u2013 the generation that was born after the first climate conference in 1995 and grew up with the growing consequences of climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current survey reveals that climate change is viewed as the central global problem by the people surveyed, across all generations and national borders. However, the survey participants anticipate that technology will be a crucial factor in solving this problem. In Germany, more than half (55 percent) of those questioned regard climate change as the biggest problem faced by the world today \u2013 a statistic that also corresponds to the global average. Climate change therefore ranks above inflation (51 percent) and poverty (41 percent). The survey took place in July 2023; in Germany, more than 1,000 people were surveyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the regional differences, the Climate Barometer clearly shows that \u201cGen COP\u201d, globally considered, is the generation looking to the future will the greatest optimism overall. Almost half of those questioned in this group (49 percent), across all countries, anticipate that the climate problems will be solved within their lifetime. In opposition to that, 45\u201354-year-olds (42 percent) along with people from the age of 55, at 32 percent, take the least optimistic view of the time to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
