The 164th edition of the International Leather Goods Fair (ILM) brought together the retail and manufacturing sectors in Offenbach from 29 to 31 August. For three days, the focus was on placing orders, holding discussions and networking. Exhibitors reported securing concrete orders, establishing contacts with new customers and having fruitful discussions with existing partners. At the same time, a shift in attitude was palpable: rather than focusing on the familiar challenges facing the market, pragmatism, confidence and the determination to seize opportunities characterised the fair. The ILM also resonated internationally: after two days, visitors from 59 countries were in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The supporting programme, featuring trend presentations, talks and keynote speeches, also provided fresh inspiration. Trend researcher Karolina Landowski highlighted the growing importance of \u2018Human Made\u2019 \u2013 an aspect that is becoming increasingly relevant in the world of bags and leather goods in light of the growing prevalence of artificial intelligence. Craftsmanship, knowledge of materials and personalised advice are thus coming more into focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were also developments in the products themselves. After years of understated aesthetics, colour, glitter, charms and pendants are regaining importance. The \u2018jelly\u2019 trend is also emerging for Spring\/Summer 2027. In luggage, front-opening designs, additional features and convertible models are creating new incentives to buy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight was the return of the ILM Awards, which were presented for the first time since 2019. In the \u2018Best in Product\u2019 category, Deuter impressed with a convertible 90-litre duffel bag, followed by Cabaia and Jost. In the \u2018Best in Retail\u2019 category, Leder Maurer took first place ahead of the Henschel Modehaus Group and Leder Spahn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ILM thus once again underlined its role as a personal meeting place for the industry. Direct exchange and personal networks are becoming increasingly important, particularly in the face of shorter cycles and growing digital communication.
