Lasting imprints

Embossing as a service for the promotional products distributors
Three-dimensional embossed prints on sweatshirts and jackets leave a lasting impression both figuratively and literally. Previously used mainly in the retail sector, this technique is now increasingly finding its way into the promotional products and textile finishing industries. The printing service provider Rogac from Slovenia now also offers embossing for promotional products businesses and resellers throughout Europe.
Embossing is a form of stamp printing that leaves behind a three-dimensional structure on textiles. For example, it is possible to emboss lettering or a simple logo that appears tone-on-tone on the textile. The only requirement for a long-lasting impression is a textile with a heavier weight, such as sweaters or softshell jackets. The thicker the fabric, the clearer the embossed print appears. During the embossing process, a heated stamp or printing plate is pressed onto the fabric. The negative design of the stamp is thus reproduced positively on the fabric. The embossing is stable thanks to silicone, which is applied to the textile structure during the embossing process. The textile is then washable.

“Impressive” technology
With its 60 employees, the Slovenian finishing company Rogac Ltd has been offering textile printing and embroidery since 1993 and is a partner of the European promotional products industry. With the new embossed printing technology, managing director Boris Bauman now wants to impress his customers in the truest sense of the word. The company requires vectorised data, for example in PDF or EPS files, for the process. The Rogac team uses this data to create a cliché, which consists of a positive and a negative side.
Impressing customers with small order quantities
The tool used for embossing textiles is a specially designed transfer press with a holder for the printing plates. “Due to the complex preparation of the embossing stamp, the process is only worthwhile for quantities of 20 garments or more. This means that promotional products businesses can impress their customers even with small order quantities,” explains Boris Bauman.
