Event rugs for promotional messages
Published on 23.10.2026
What happens with the rugs used at large trade shows, award ceremonies and events after they are over? In many cases, they are thrown away. Schneider Schreibgeräte takes a different approach and collaborates with the company Polyperformer from Baden-Württemberg to recycle them. New promotional writing instruments are made from the used event rugs.
With the new re:carpet series, Schneider is the first writing instrument manufacturer to put promotional writing instruments on the market with barrels that are partially made from recycled event rugs. The rugs are collected after events, sorted by type, shredded and processed into plastic pellets. These pellets are then used as raw material for the production of new writing instruments at the company’s facilities in the Black Forest.
re:carpet times two
The series includes the Slider Edge XB re:carpet ballpoint pen and the Shine-Up re:carpet highlighter. The Shine-Up re:carpet model features a barrel that is made from 60 per cent recycled plastic, sourced from recycled event rugs and other recycled plastic, and 25% biobased plastic. The body of the Slide Edge XB re:carpet is made from 83% recycled plastic. The Slider Edge XB re:carpet is designed with Viscoglide® technology, which provides a really smooth and effortless writing experience. A padded triangular shaft ensures ergonomic handling, while the extra-wide stainless-steel tip ensures a comfortable writing experience. The Shine-Up re:carpet combines highlighter functionality with a slim, pen-like shape. Its pointed tip lets users highlight text with two-line widths, and its water-based ink produces vibrant, fade-resistant results. Both models can be customised with digital printing and used as promotional products, allowing companies to convey their messages directly on a functional branded product.
100 per cent made in Germany
Schneider relies on regional and transparent production and uses secondary raw materials. The promotional writing instruments are developed and made 100 per cent in Germany. By producing the products at German facilities, the company says it can ensure its quality and environmental and social standards are maintained along the entire supply chain. The company’s commitment to the environment is also substantiated by its EMAS certification. “The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme” (EMAS) is one of the world’s most rigorous environmental management systems and requires companies to make ongoing improvements to their environmental performance.
A credible way to experience sustainability
With the re:carpet series, Schneider demonstrates how so-called event waste can be transformed into high-quality promotional writing instruments with a trackable recycling history. It makes it possible for promotional product distributors and brand manufacturers to enable users to experience sustainability in a credible way – through a product with a transparent and trackable origin.
