Metallic-effect films are extremely versatile, provide a unique lustrous finishand are a real eye-catcher for both interiors and works of art

With their works of art, artists Francesco Bernabei and Magnus Gustafsson demonstrate extremely effectively just how versatile metallic-effect film can be. Their sculpture‚ “Karat”, with its gleaming golden geometrical shapes and surfaces which deliberately reflect light in all different directions, really stands out.

Consisting of four irregular revolving shapes, the kinetic sculpture totally dominates the central square of the Portuguese town of Abrantes. As it turns, golden reflections flit across the surrounding facades of the buildings of the Praça Raimundo José. The lighting effects keep shifting due to the changing position of the sun as it shines on the gleaming foil-coated surfaces, as demonstrated in this video:

With their work “Karat”, the artists did not just want to create an architectural eye-catcher but change the conventional appearance of the town. Passers-by also play a crucial role. When crossing the square each one becomes a part of the installation, making the town shine in a new light every day.

For the project, the artists used the special film MetalEffect Dryapply ASLAN CAL 23 gold, which is particularly well-suited for the dry bonding of smooth surfaces. It is available in gold and silver.

The current trend towards metallic-effect films is underlined by the broad range of films on offer from the foil manufacturer. Whether we are talking about sales areas, visual merchandising, shop-window, interior, store or trade fair design, the iridescent material can be used to create highlights both indoors and out. It can be used for decorative elements, such as lettering or logos, as well as for individual motifs. Furthermore, the film is easy to attach blister-free thanks to very fine air-permeable pores on its adhesive side.

The metallic-effect films are not only available in the usual colours of gold, rose-gold, silver and bronze, but also in red, green, cyan and magenta, as well as in the different finishes of high-gloss, brushed or matt.
