Also after the decisions made by the Federal Government and the Federal States on October 14, 2020 to contain the corona pandemic, trade fairs can still be held in Germany.

In the talks between the Chancellor and the heads of government of the German states, it was agreed that the number of participants at events in regions with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants should be limited to 100 on average over the last seven days. However, this does not apply to events, which have a hygiene concept that is coordinated with the responsible health authority.

As corresponding concepts exist for the trade fairs planned in the near future, trade fairs are not affected by this agreement, as AUMA – Association of the German Trade Fair Industry – states. In principle, separate regulations for trade fairs apply in the federal states; central components are, among others, hygiene concepts agreed upon with the responsible authorities. According to the agreement between the Federal Government and the Federal States on May 6, 2020, the implementation of trade fairs is the responsibility of the individual Federal States with corresponding conditions.

AUMA assumes that the federal states will continue these regulations accordingly. This is because all trade fairs held since the new start in September could be carried out without any objections with regard to the health protection of the participants. Also, at the meeting of the Federal Government and the Federal States, no restrictions were agreed for other premises with a business purpose, such as shopping centers, shopping malls or department stores, where the procedures are comparable to those in exhibition halls.
