The Luhta Sportswear Company is the main partner and official supplier of the Finnish Olympic team. The athletes will wear sports apparel from the Rukka brand at the Olympics. Luhta collaborated with the Finish company and PSI member Pure Waste, a specialist in recycled textile materials, on the designed collection. Both Finish partners got together to provide Finland’s Olympic team with sportswear made from recycled materials.

The successful collaboration between Luhta Sportswear Company, owner of the sports brand Rukka, and Pure Waste began in 2023. Luhta relies on Pure Waste’s recycling expertise. Their cooperation covers leisure wear for athletes and a collection for fans. According to Pure Waste, the collaboration aims to offer ‘sustainable, high-quality products and promote a closed-loop economy in the fashion industry’.

Pure Waste from Helsinki produced polo shirts, hoodies, shorts and trousers for athletes on behalf of Luhta Sportswear Company. T-shirts and hoodies were created for the Rukka brand’s commercial collection.

Pure Waste makes all of its clothing from 100 % recycled fibres, saving considerable amounts of natural resources. For example, according to the manufacturer’s calculations, a Pure Waste t-shirt saves 1.425 litres of water and 1 kg CO2 emissions compared to similar t-shirts made from new materials. The clothing made for Rukka saves several millions of litres of water and significant amounts of CO2 emissions. The company Pure Waste stresses that every product has a specific footprint and handprint value, which increases transparency and awareness of its environmental effects.

Karsten Bleymehl, Sales Director of the Pure Waste brand in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, states, ‘Our collaboration with Rukka is an excellent example of how responsible fashion can be combined with elite sport to offer athletes and consumers sustainable options’.
