A focus on renewable energies and fostering creativity

With an explicit avowal of sustainability, Faber-Castell – one of the world’s leading companies for high-quality products for writing, drawing and creative designing, plus decorative cosmetic products – has published its current sustainability report for financial year 2023/24 under the motto, “Changes Needs Creativity”. The company’s long-term engagement in respect of ecological, social and entrepreneurial sustainability illustrates its unswerving path towards a sustainable way of doing business.
One important emphasis in the report lies on ecological responsibility – especially on reducing the company’s carbon footprint. In the last financial year, solar facilities were installed at the Engelhartszell site, supplying the Austrian plant with electricity generated from solar power. An increasing number of Faber-Castell production sites is converting to the use of recycled plastic, for felt-tip pens, ballpoint pens, or highlighters, for example. In the last financial year, more than 35 percent more recycled plastic was used in comparison to the previous year.
In the social responsibility area, fostering creativity is at the focus. In the company’s eleven national businesses, painting and drawing contests were organised in order to support children and young people in developing their creativity and unfolding their personality. Alongside dedicated initiatives, Faber-Castell also banks on collaboration with longstanding partners, such as, for example, The Red Pencil Humanitarian Mission, a charity foundation that helps children and youths who have undergone traumatic experiences to creatively develop by means of art therapy methods.
Added to that is the company’s engagement in the UN Global Compact, to which Faber-Castell has belonged for more than two decades. This demonstrates that the family-owned company takes its entrepreneurial responsibility seriously and intends to continue to develop it in the context of international co-operation and partnership.
Each year, on the basis of specific projects, Faber-Castell presents its ecological, social and entrepreneurial engagement in its “Sustainability Insights”. Each financial period’s current figures and data on the company’s sustainability achievement is published in the “Sustainability Details”.
