A piece of festival history

When the traditional “Ozapft is!” shout rings out at Munich’s Theresienwiese in September, it will also mark a special moment for RASTAL. As a long-standing official licensing partner of the Bavarian state capital of Munich, the drinking vessel specialist will be presenting the official Oktoberfest™ 2026 collector’s beer mug.

This family-run business, which is based in Höhr-Grenzhausen and a member of the PSI network, combines its centuries-old ceramic tradition with a piece of Munich’s festival culture. The simple shape of the grey stoneware beer mug – known in Bavaria as the ‘Keferloher’ – has remained virtually unchanged for more than 100 years. The body is shaped by machine, while the ceramic handles are attached and smoothed by hand. The current design is then applied by hand as a decal before the mug is fired a second time.

The changing poster motif each year makes it a particularly sought-after collector’s item. The award-winning design for 2026 combines tradition and modernity: a tuba, a pretzel, a Ferris wheel and a gingerbread heart merge into a colourful composition. A suggestion of a tabletop conveys a sense of conviviality, while the towers of the Frauenkirche emphasise the historical identity of the Oktoberfest.

The annual mug is available with or without a pewter lid. The lids for the deluxe version are cast individually and fitted by hand. This year’s pewter lid is dedicated to Betty Feldl (1908–2002), the original Munich Oktoberfest figure who was highly influential on the legendary “Teufelsrad” (Devil’s Wheel) for decades.

This makes the official 2026 Oktoberfest mug more than just a souvenir. It combines craftsmanship, tradition and a vibrant festival culture. It is available in the festival tents, from the usual distributors, in the official RASTAL online shop and at shop.oktoberfest.de.
